One thing about sleeping under the bridge was it provided an almost perfect barrier from the morning sun; therefore, I was able to stay comfortably until 9:50 am. This morning, I wanted to walk a while up the hill and hitchhike at the scenic pullout. Just because I wasn't hiking doesn't mean I should be lazy and start hitchhiking where I woke up.
An hour later, I was up the hill near the town of Lake Walker ad it took 50 minutes in the baking sun to get a ride from John in a 30+ year old RV he purchased 4 years ago for $4500.
John is a 68 year old great grandfather who travelled with his dog and lived in a small Oregon town. He was coming from Las Vegas where he was visiting his sister. Most of his life was dedicated to the military and now collected $1400/month pension from Uncle Sam; however, he wasn't allow to "double dip" by withdrawing from social security simultaneously.
John and I got off to a great start. He wasn't planning on travelling to Oregon tonight, but could provide a lift as far as we was going. Up the road, he walked his dog, and then he offered to let me drive the RV. Because I've never driven an RV and it's been quite a while since I've piloted any vehicle, I was a little nervous.
It seemed just about every little town we passed through, John reminded me to slow down (I was already driving slow), "You can drive as fast as you like, but it's your ticket." On the highway, I maxed between 55 and 60, and in town I peaked 2 to 3 miles over the speed limit.
