Stopped at: Joshua Tree Spring, mile 659.3 Miles today: 19.4
At 9:20 am, I left camp. I probably could have left sooner, but the socks were still moist. I certaintly didn't do a good job laundering the North Face shirt because the sleeves were still rolled up when I put it on. The socks looked cleaner though.
There was a bowl inside the cabin I used to gather water from the pipe spring. I brought the water up to the cabin to wash my hair. A mirror inside the cabin allowed me to check my vanity. I suppose I could have appeared much worse.
My plan today was to get to Walker Pass campground at Highway 178 and hitchhike east into Inyokern. One of the logs from a hiker in the cabin stated Onyx only had a gas station and the post office and grocery store were permanently closed. Onyx had been my original destination based on the databook until I met Chuck, who informed me about Inyokern, a week ago.
Darren and Jim had only taken enough water to take them the 7.3 miles to Walker Pass campground.
